|Types Of Pollution|
Hello again! In my previous post, I explained about pollution by giving a brief and general explanation for "What Is Pollution?" Today, I would like go a little further and list a few of the common types of pollution. There are many types of pollution and while all types of pollution have adverse effect on the Earth, the magnitude at which each type affect the world that we live in is not the same. Here, I would like to list the types of pollution that are widely known to have negative impacts on our planet and give brief explanations for each of them (Detailed explanation coming soon as separate posts!) Without wasting time, let's most on to the list!
Air Pollution
Air pollution is the process of introducing chemicals, particulates, or biological matter into the atmosphere. The impurities in air cause discomfort, disease, or death to humans, damage other living organisms such as food crops, or damage the natural environment or built environment.

-->The burning of fossil fuels in vehicles and manufacturing
-->Volcanic eruptions, forest fires, and other natural process
-->Construction and demolition of buildings
The effect of air population may vary depending on the amount of pollutant present in the air. For humans, air pollution generally leads to damage in the respiratory and inflammatory systems. Damage done against plants and animals on the other hand, affects biodiversity and crop yield. Global warming is another condition that is commonly associated to increased air pollution.
Water Pollution
Water pollution is the process in which water sources such as rivers, lakes and oceans are contaminated. Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies without proper treatment to remove harmful compounds.Source: pollutionfacts.wikia.com |
Some of the many sources of water pollution are:
--> Littering and improper waste disposal
--> Oil pollution
--> Industrial wastes
The effects of water pollution vary and they greatly depend on the type of chemicals/waste that are dumped and in what locations. However, generally water pollution kills sea organisms and disrupts the marine food chain.
Land Pollution
Land pollution or soil pollution is the process in which the quality of the Earth's land surface deteriorates. Land pollution occurs as a direct and indirect result of human activities.Source: sustainablebabysteps.com |
There are many sources of land pollution. Some of them are:
--> Waste matter, pesticides and fertilisers used in agriculture
--> Littering and formation of landfills
--> Toxic wastes from industries
Land or soil contamination affects crop yield and causes loss of wildlife habitat. Besides, landfills breed rodents that transmit diseases to humans.
Noise Pollution
Noise Pollution is said to occur when unwanted sounds interfere with our daily life. Not all sounds can be said to cause noise pollution though. Generally, a noise pollution is said to occur when when you hear sounds from the same source in a very frequent basis to the extent that it is irritating.Source: incrove.com |
The many sources of noise pollution include:
--> Social events such as parties
--> Modes of transportation such as cars, rails or even airplanes
--> Industrial activities such as manufacturing
Noise pollution or sound pollution may impact the hearing of a person who is exposed to them for a long period of time. What's more, constant nuisance may even increase your stress level!
Light Pollution
Light pollution, also known as photopollution or luminous pollution, is the excessive illumination of a particular area by artificial light sources. or obtrusive artificial light
--> Cities full of lighted skyscraper buildings
--> Advertising boards
Any form light emitted upward at night that is not blocked by buildings or trees will scatter throughout the atmosphere and brighten the night sky. This process disrupts star-gazing for astronomical purposes and for personal enjoyment.--> Advertising boards
That's all for today. Before you leave, watch this funny youtube video about pollution by rishimsh. So, you think pollution does not affect you?
Look forward for more soon! Till then. Byebye!
